Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026
Mazz Maps is a cycling app for rating roads, planning routes and recording rides. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and the choices you have. Mazz Maps does not sell your data, does not show ads, and does not use third-party analytics or tracking.
What We Collect
Account
- Your email address, username, display name and rider type, used to sign you in and show your contributions.
Location
- While the app is open, your location centers the map, downloads nearby map data and places the road ratings and markers you add.
- While you record a ride, your location is used in the background so the ride is tracked with the screen off. Background location is only used during a ride you start.
Rides
- Recorded rides (GPS track, elevation, times, speed, distance, and the device model, iOS version, app version and time zone) are saved to your ride log so you can review them, and are used to suggest roads for the shared map.
- Rides and routes you import or save to your route library.
Health and fitness (Apple Health)
- With your permission, heart rate, cycling power and cadence are read from Apple Health and added to the ride you are recording, and saved with it in your ride log.
- Mazz Maps never writes to Apple Health. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and is only shared with others when you choose to (for example, uploading a ride to Strava).
- Barometric altitude from your device's motion sensors is used to record elevation during a ride.
Map contributions
- Road ratings, map markers, road segments and photos you add. These are part of a shared map that other riders see. Your ratings appear on the shared map without your email.
Group rides
- If you join a group ride, your display name and live position are shared with the other members of that group while it is active. Group rides expire after 12 hours.
Feedback
- Messages you send with Send feedback.
Strava
Connecting Strava is optional. If you connect it:
- Mazz Maps stores your Strava athlete ID, name and access tokens on our server so it can act on your behalf. Your Strava password is never seen by Mazz Maps.
- Rides are uploaded to Strava only when you tap Upload to Strava or turn on automatic upload.
- Strava activities are downloaded only when you choose to load them.
- Disconnecting Strava (Account > Strava) revokes Mazz Maps' access with Strava and deletes the stored tokens. You can also revoke access from your Strava settings.
- Strava's use of your data is covered by Strava's own privacy policy.
Services We Use
- Supabase hosts the Mazz Maps account system and database.
- Apple Maps (MapKit) provides maps, search, directions and street names.
- Apple Health provides health data when you allow it.
- Strava, only if you connect it.
- Open Topo Data provides elevations for map roads (only road coordinates are sent, not your location or identity).
These services process data only to provide the features above.
Keeping and Deleting Your Data
- Your data is kept until you delete it or delete your account.
- You can delete individual rides, routes, markers and ratings in the app.
- Account > Delete Account permanently deletes your account, profile, ride log, saved routes, group rides, feedback and Strava connection. Road ratings you added stay on the shared map without being linked to you; markers you rated as favorites are deleted.
- Clear this device's map data removes downloaded map data from your device.
Children
Mazz Maps is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at the same address and in the app, with a new effective date.
